After wet shaving for over thirty years, I've purchased and used numerous double edge razors including slant razors. I could never get any of those slant razors to do my neck without getting razor burn trying to remove all the stubble. Stubble can ruin the collar of a dress shirt over time, so often times I would have to use the slants on weekends. Then I heard about the Rex Konsul on a wet shave online forum. So, I thought I would see if it performed as well as many forum commenters said it did. I was not disappointed. I put a Feather blade in, used some Razor Emporium Pre-Shave Soap, then used a two band Badger brush to whip up some lather and took about two minutes to fully lather my face and neck. The result was fantastic. The razor removed all the stubble from my neck with two passes and no razor burn. I attribute the smooth shave to the razor having a consistent blade gap and angle across each edge, so there were no high points or troughs to remove skin causing the razor burn. The razor has a nice balance, deeply cut gripping surface, and just plain looks sharp, no pun intended.

This is a fantastic razor; I purchased the rhodium coating version. It shaves effortlessly and is incredible smooth regardless of which aggressiveness setting I have it at. In fact, I have found that I shave at setting 4 or higher as the lower settings don’t work as well for me, but I prefer an aggressive shave. It is not without its faults though and for a $500.00 razor, I think these are unacceptable. First, securing the blade is annoying as the bars are on the top piece, so it takes a few tries as the razor blade moves around when trying to tighten the top and bottom pieces. Second, rust, or perhaps rust discoloring, has developed on the bar of the top piece where the bar screws into the hole. I have never removed a blade from a DE razor until it was time to change it (for me, three shaves), and I have never had rust occur, or rust discoloring, occur on a razor before now. I don’t understand how a $500.00 razor has had these two issues whereas my other two cheap ($40 and $60) razors have not. Those cheap razors had no issues with securing the blade nor rusting issues. Still, the shave this razor provides is incredible despite its flaws. I find myself shaving 7 days a week since I’ve purchased it because it is that enjoyable. It performs well beyond my two other razors I’ve had.

I have some really great shaves with this razor. I like where I can adjust it and fine tune it more than I could with previous slant razors with the blade change alone. I am getting great shaves but I will say there is one small niggle that keeps me from making this a perfect review. Putting the blade in the razor is a little more finicky. You have to place the blade over the post, not on the posts because they are not long enough, but over so they are aligned over the posts. You then place the rest of the razor over it and you might need to wiggle it around a little to get the posts to settle into the blade. While applying some force to keep it together from the spring of the blade you the screw the top to the rest of the razor. If the posts were about a millimeter or two longer, then this would be a 5 star review. I can't just drop the blade down like my 37C and go. It takes some fiddling to get it assembled.
