This product was developed by wet shaving enthusiasts to deliver a fully customizable shaving experience. A slant razor is a highly efficient tool that removes coarse stubble effortlessly and does not irritate sensitive skin. Inspired by the French guillotine, and perfected by the Germans, a slant razor is the perfect solution for shavers suffering from coarse beards and sensitive skin because of the slicing motion. We wanted to pay tribute to our slant's roots in German shaving history, but wanted to express it is equal to the ranking of 'Ambassador' and the name Konsul was chosen.

This double edge safety razor is manufactured from marine-grade stainless steel for maximum durability and ease-of-use. It is perfectly weighted and balanced and features our new technology, Diamond Grip handle. Many have said our Sure Grip handle is the best they've ever felt... but just wait until you experience our Diamond Grip!

From the moment you place the Konsul in your hands you will feel the benchmark for modern handles shift. Diamond Grip creates friction that feels like the handle is gripping you back allowing you to discover brilliant security during your shaves, even when wet. This precision cut knurl is featured for the first time on our new Konsul Slant Adjustable Razor and is just another facet that makes the Konsul Slant Adjustable a must experience!

The Konsul is infinitely adjustable, making it easy to find the best possible blade exposure for your skin. Just turn the integrated dial up or down to adjust the amount of blade gap for a milder or more aggressive shave. It is fully compatible with any double edge blade, giving you lots of options and combinations to “dial-in” a consistently perfect shaving experience. After just a few passes, you’ll find the razor glides across the skin almost effortlessly, while leaving behind a noticeably soft, clean and fully groomed path.

The Konsul is Made in the USA and designed for a lifetime of use. Each razor features an individual serial number and a manufacturing code that adheres to the classic Gillette® product dating system.

    Polished Rex Konsul

For those wondering how the Konsul compares to the Ambassador: The Konsul is a completely different razor than the Rex Ambassador. It is less blade forward. It is still highly efficient (10 hours BBS) with the slant and the adjustable blade gap. I find both the Rex Ambassador and Konsul to be very smooth, but the Konsul has significantly less blade feel. My preferred setting on the Konsul seems to be around 4. The polished finish is EXCELLENT. Not a single mark can be seen by the naked eye. Highly polished that rivals any high end razor maker. You can feel the tension of the torqued blade as you put on and tighten the top cap as well as when you adjust setting. This tension means the blade is being held very ridged to minimize any blade chatter. I dont have any issues loading the blade whatsoever. But I'm used to slant razors. The knurling is GORGEOUS. It isn't as grippy as the Ambassador, but it is very good. Overall, I highly recommend this Konsul to those who wants 1. A smooth and efficient shaver, 2. A very high end piece that will last a life time or three, 3. A Rex Ambassador like efficient razor with less blade feel.

    not what I expected

I am probably bias, I already had an ambassador XL and that thing is a perfect 10. The Konsul is not a bad razor but the grip on the handle is slippery and I heard so many times that a slant was the closest most comfortable shave you could ever ask for. I need to keep getting to know it obviously but so far it's just not what I expected. I probably need to set the adjustment higher to 4 or 5 because I can't seem to line out my beard with detail like I can with the ambassador XL.. This is the opinion of one man so take it with a grain of salt

Great but not perfect for everyone

I purchased the konsul after having owned the ambassador for a bit. The razor is very efficient, giving a perfectly clean shave. The grip is grippier than the ambassador but strangely enough, not as grippy as I thought when your hands are wet - probably related to the weight of this piece. I find it slightly too heavy for my liking - but only slightly so. Due to its efficiency, I find it always nicks the moles on my face (even on setting 2) - unlike some other razors like the Rockwell 6S and the Carbon 316 that can also give a BBS shave I even get fewer nicks with my Mühle R41. Oh it does not need to be said, but be careful - I have many razors and got used to holding the head in my left hand then unscrewing the handle to clean it. I did the same with the konsul but it slipped when I unscrewed the bottom knob (while on setting 6) and cut my thumb quite deeply. This is 100% my stupidity but just a word of caution to take extra care - there is no need to hold the head, just hold the stem. The finish (I got the Rhodium plated version) is beautiful and well done - super shiny. All in all a great razor - but it depends on your skin type how much you will love it.

Shaves do not get more buttery smooth than this

Owning both the Konsul and the Ambassador, the Konsul certainly has noticeably less blade feel than the Ambassador. The Konsul is certainly going to be a worthwhile razor that I will love using alongside the Rex Ambassador, and I will not be parting with my Ambassador (still thoroughly, thoroughly enjoy using it a lot). I will probably mention the Rex Ambassador quite a bit in this review, but I feel this is worthwhile because they are very similar razors in their appearance, but at the same time shave and feel very different. I think they will be a lot of people who have the Rex Ambassador that would also be interested in purchased the Konsul, or people that have been put off getting the Rex Ambassador, due to the forward facing blade feel that some people find with it, and are interested in seeing how the Konsul compares to it. I found that I needed to go on to the higher numbers on the Konsul, when compared to using the Rex Ambassador. I started off on 2 for first pass. Second I put it on 4. Third pass and touch up pass I maxed the Konsul out (roughly 6.5). When comparing it against the Rex Ambassador, I use that on 2, 3, 4.5 for the respective passes. Despite this high setting, the Konsul shaved buttery smooth and with not too much blade feel, and I had zero post shave irritation and I had amongst the best post shave feel I have had in a long time. On the subject of blade feel. I found very little under 4. After numerous shaves and trying different blades, I eventually found the best settings, were 4, 5, 6.5. I won't mention which blades worked best for me in this razor, because as you know, blades are very subjective, and just because one particular blade works well for me in this razor, does not guarantee it will be the same for you. Very, very impressive razor and this was my first slant razor. I found that I could more easily (and more comfortably) get the straddlers, when comparing it to the Ambassador, despite the Ambassador having more blade feel (just goes to show that the more blade feel, doesn’t always mean a closer shave or a more easily obtained closer shave). Out of my collection of razors, this is the most comfortable and buttery smooth shaving razor, of all my efficient shaving razors. My advice is, if you are wanting a Rex razor, but are a bit put off with the Ambassador’s forward feeling blade feel and you are unable to try the Rex Ambassador out prior to purchase, is that I would recommend going with the Konsul. Couple of niggles I found with the Konsul: 1: Good as the handle grip is on the Konsul, I find the handle grip on the Ambassador to be noticeably more grippy. I can understand why Matt (the guy who created the Rex Konsul) wanted to change the grip design on the Konsul, as he obviously wanted to differentiate it from the Ambassador. But given the choice I would choose the handle grip design on the Ambassador over the Konsul’s. 2: With the top cap on the Konsul having a slant and as such not been perfectly flat. I found blade loading to be a bit more fiddly than loading the blade in the Rex Ambassador (or my other none slant razors) as the Rex Ambassador has a straight/flat top cap. I found the best way to load the blade in the Konsul, was to place the blade on the top of the handle, and then lower the top cap down on to it, then hold the top cap in place with one hand and tighten with the other, but just check the blade alignment as it's easy for it to not be aligned properly when it's fully tightened down. With all that being said, it’s a very impressive razor, and one that I will certainly enjoy using and I have absolutely no regrets with buying it. Just to add about my little bit of experience with Razor Emporium's exceptional customer service: I live in the UK, and purchased the Rex Konsul from a UK stockist of it. I had signed up for stock notifications from them, so that I would be notified when they had stock of the Rex Konsul again. I received the "back in stock" email while I was away on holiday. So I placed the order and my parents took delivery of it while I was on holiday. I returned home two weeks later and opened the box and noticed a scratch on the top cap. I first emailed the shop I purchased it from (including a picture showing the scratch on the top cap), but I did not receive a reply back for over fours days (they were away at an event with limited access to phone and emails). After three days of waiting for a reply back from the shop where I purchased it from, I thought I would email Razor Emporium/Rex directly and raise the issue with them (I attached a picture showing the scratch on the top cap). I figured that they would be the best people to contact to source a replacement top cap as they are the manufacturers of the Konsul, and presumed that the shop where I had purchased it from would have just contacted Razor Emporium/Rex anyway to source me a replacement top cap, and then shipped the top cap on to me once they had received it. I received an email back from Razor Emporium/Rex the very same day, saying "That definitely should not be the quality that you get from Rex, and we will go ahead and send you out a new top cap today". Around nine days later the replacement top cap arrived, and that one is flawless. Absolutely fantastic customer service, and all dealt with, with just the one email.
