Vintage safety razors pack some of the most bang for the buck, but knowing if they are fully functional, hygienic and shave-ready is a different story. This razor has gone through our complete tune up process. We first clean the razor in our industrial ultrasonic machine to remove any soap scum, mineral deposits and grime. Disassembly is carried out for the best results whenever possible. Next we carefully polish the inside and out of the razor, bringing the vintage metal up to a high luster. Mechanical adjustments are made to ensure the best functionality of the razor.

History: The Gillette Super Speed came on the scene in the late 1940's and ran through continuous production into the 1980's. The "Flair Tip" variety came out in the 1950's and ran through the late 60's and was designated as the "Normal" variety for average skin and beard. They are known as one of the best all around DE razors to be made. The TV Super Speed  was a specially marketed razor at the dawn of the age of Television. Marketers at Gillette released this TV Special and marketed with TV commercials only to see if it would be a successful platform.

    What a great, nostalgic Shave.

I purchased this "TV Special" as I love the results I get from all my "Super Speeds", both 40's and Flare tips. This is no different, other than the handle knurling pattern. What it did do, was transport me back to my youth when we only had black and white TV and three channels. I was too young to watch the "Cavalcade of Sports" but while researching this razor, I got to watch a number of vintage Gillette commercials. 1950's "New Market" Marketing at its best, which apparently worked, as TV promotions sold 4 times that of regular sales. As with all R.E. revamped razors it's "flawless" and a thing of beauty, that provides a clean, close, smooth shave. I'll be back for more razors, as the value proposition from Razor Emporium is first rate.
