The Complete Gillette Collector's Handbook by Phillip Krumholtz E-book

Description

A must have for any razor collector starting off, or for those just curious about Gillette history. This is the first digital edition of The Complete Gillette Collector's Handbook by Phillip L. Krumholz. It is in PDF format available for download upon purchase. If you've wanted a copy of this essential reference to Gillette safety razors, and didn't like the high prices on some web sites, or if you would like to have it in a handy digital format you can take anywhere, your wait is over.

Self published by the author, it was scanned from his own copy of the first printed edition. It also includes additional excerpts from his 1995 work, "Collector's Guide to American Razor Blades" (some portions of which were already in the Handbook). Between the two, you can identify and accurately date almost anything Gillette.

The scanned pages are in a better resolution than we're able to show here, but they give you some idea of the level of detail you'll be able to see. Since it's in a PDF, you can zoom in to any image for a closer look. This is important when looking at the minute differences between certain razor models. While it's not a text mode scan, you can use the table of contents to jump to any page or section you need.

If you're serious about collecting Gillette safety razors and accessories, this is the only resource that provides all the details you need. Other books have a chapter or section on Gillette. At 496 pages (including the razor blade reference), this one is as large as other whole books.

    Great Book

If you collect Gillette razors, you need this book. It contains a wealth of information and I refer to it frequently. Keep in mind that it is a digital copy of an out of print book. If you want the original, if you can find one, you'll have to pay a hefty amount of money for it. So, accept it for what it is: a copy of an excellent book.

    Excellent information! However...

I hate to post any kind of negative review on what is likely the most authoritative book ever written (or ever will be written) on the history of King Gillette and his razor empire, but I also want to make sure people understand what they're getting. First of all, as claimed, this book is chock full of more information on Gillette than you'll likely ever need. Anyone who has more than just a passing interest in the Gillette Corporation and their razors will likely want this. But that's the problem. I find myself with a digital book full of fascinating tidbits that is tough to read. Why? Because instead of being black fonts on a white background like you'd expect, the text is grey - and not a dark grey. If you zoom in, the text becomes pixilated quite quickly. Also, if you're expecting to see full color photos of razors, you won't. The photos are all grey scale and not particularly high quality. This is where I have to say I'm most disappointed with the description of this product. The 3rd paragraph of the description implies something that - in my opinion - the product simply doesn't deliver. Also, if you're thinking about using OCR to make it searchable, I was unable to do so with anything I tried. You may have better luck. All that said, I'm not sorry I bought this book. It's amazing and I do not want a refund. But it is also frustrating and not what I was expecting. It would be nice if they posted a photo or two of the actual book text and photos rather than the high quality cover of the book only.

    Everything you need to know

Great reference. It's everything you need to know about Gillette razors. Even if you don't collect them, it's still cool to read up on the evolution of Gillette. They were way ahead of their time with the designs and if you look at just about EVERY double edge razor out now a days, you will see some sort of design similar to a Gillette.

    An Indispensable Reference

Do you want to know something about Gillette Razors or their history? Look no further. This volume is exhaustive. In 30 chapters and 496 pages Krumholz provides the indispensable reference for the Gillette collector. I only have a couple complaints. Some of the documents included are difficult to read due to reproduction problems. It would have been quite an enhancement if the author had added a chronological series of photographs depicting the various types of safety razors the company produced. Those quibbles aside, this digital version is a reference which will be used extensively as I build my vintage razor collection.
