I have talked about straight razor shaving for a couple years now but always put it off due to using my ventage collection of DE razors. Well this year my girlfriend got me the gold dollar 208 kit for christmas and I could not be happier. The kit gives you everything you need to get the full experience of stright razor shaving. Making the jump from cartridge razors to straight razor shaving seemed overwhelming at first. Trying to figure out everything I needed to just get started seemed confusing. Then i found this kit. A lot of other kits that i found on other sites or amazon seemed like they were missing some essential items or were put together with much lower quality items. Not this one. If you buy this kit you can shave the day it gets to your house. The razor included is indeed shave ready and VERY sharp. My only suggestion to someone thinking about buying this kit would be to buy a badger shave brush and one of the artisan soaps. In my opinion the boar brush is a little rough(especially if you have really sensitive skin or any razor burn). And the proraso while it is not a bad product left my skin feeling a little dry and was lacking on slickness. My order shipped the same day I ordered it and was at my house three days later(not bad for traveling from one side of the country to the other). I would recommend this to any one of my friends and family. Could not be happier with my purchase.

When I was initially looking into learning to straight-razor shaving I was tempted to simply go out and buy all of the full-sized equipment and a nicer, fancier razor. I'm certainly glad I opted for this started kit because as all beginners do, I made mistakes while learning, resulting in the small travel strop now having multiple cuts on it and the razor having some very minor rust around the pin. I'm glad I got the starter kit so that I could make those beginner mistakes with these rather than damaging nicer, more expensive equipment. My only complaint about this kit is that the brush seems to loose bristles regularly even after multiple uses.
