It's great to see fine safety razors made in the USA again! I own the Ambassador as well as modern competitors' products and the Rex Ambassador wins in every category. Great detail, feel, and workmanship.

I've seen people here compare the Ambassador to the Rockwell 6S. I'm not here to complain about the 6S, but apart from the fact you can change the base plate on the Rockwell to alter the aggressiveness of your shave, this is like comparing a kitten to a jaguar. And I very much like the 6S. It's just not a good comp and as such, not in the same conversation. The Ambassador is an amazing razor, one of my four favorite high-end razors, and the only one among them which is adjustable. Someone mentioned the Ambassador 'fails to replicate the features of the late 50s/early 60s Gillette Adjustables'. It wasn't supposed to! The Ambassador is modeled on the Gibbs Adjustable head, a French adjustable from 10-20 years before Gillette crossed the finish line on the 195. And that's where the comparison ends, because the Gibbs doesn't hold a candle to this. For modern machining, fit and finish, tight tolerances, infinite adjustability, incredible heft and weight in the hand (while not unwieldy at all) and the best knurling I've ever seen, the Ambassador beats all other adjustable razors for comfort and quality of shave. If I had to knock just one thing, I'd say it's not an inexpensive razor. But it's aimed at high-end users, and there are even more expensive non-adjustable modern DE razors out there. What's clear to me is that Rex Supply Co has delivered a high-end, high-tech, heirloom quality adjustable razor, and that there is no other adjustable whose performance comes close to measuring up. The Ambassador is top of class.

I use this razor to shave my head as well as to shave my beard. I find that the increased weight and the larger machined grip, as compared to my adjustable Gillette razor, make for a faster, smoother shave.

Let me start off with the short of it…this razor is absolutely awesome! I opened the box and I was pleasantly surprised with the presentation and execution of this razor. If the box is your thing than you will not be disappointed. It is tough, well constructed, and has nice graphics. The razor is superb! It is solid and well build. The razor has a nice heft to it, but not so much that it is cumbersome. This razor provided me with the best shaves I have ever had and I have several other razors to compare it to. I am an addict like most of you out there and own several others including the revered Slim and Fatboy. I had some concerns about this razor before I purchased it. Some have been very critical in their assessments. Ultimately though, I made the leap of faith and I am glad I did. But, for the discerning consumers out there dyeing to know let us address some of the concerns that I had. The adjustment knob does spin without locking into place. However, the knob does have enough friction to prevent it from just free spinning. I shaved with it several times before this review and I never experienced the knob changing/ moving during a shave. Some were concerned with loading blades and lamented that the top cap was hard to align. I had absolutely no problems with aligning the top cap. If you watch the promo video for this razor you will see Matt align the top cap and trap it with two fingers on the bottom and a thumb on the top. This technique worked well for me. The other concern was the price. Some have compared it to the Rockwell razor. All I can say is that this is a true adjustable. You simple turn the knob and it adjusts the blade gap. Its that simple. The Rockwell requires you to swap/ flip bottom plates to achieve different blade gaps. this razor is much more elegant and the knurling is far superior. Additionally, if you took the time to read this far down, well, you have the sickness too and I can guess that you probably own many other razors in your den. Stop denying yourself and go for it. The satin finish is very nice and the details on this razor are well executed. The knurling on the handle is perfect. the knurling is very aggressive and provides a nice grip even with wet soapy hands. This is truly a pleasure to shave with and is my new favorite razor. American made and build to last. My congratulations to Matt and his team on a damn fine razor.
